The ChonGae Canal Restoration Project is an ambitious redevelopment initiative that transformed the urban fabric of Seoul, Korea. This design was the winning project in an international competition and celebrates the source point of cleansed surficial and sub grade runoff from the city at the start of this seven mile green corridor. The main competition requirement was to highlight the future reunification of North and South Korea.

The river currents, the flow of people, and the gravity of objects are all woven together to form a dynamic concord (Figure 01). This is achieved through the meandering vegetated terraces, curvilinear paths, a serpentine bridge, circular bio-swales and planting beds, and curved benches. The project has given the city a new identity and is now acclaimed as its most poetic landscape.

The city of Perreux-sur-Marne has rethought its entire relation to its river, considering it as a major environmental, social, urban and political issue. The project aims at bringing back both the people and other species of plants and animals to the banks of the river Marne, by softening the water and urban edges. Concrete protections are turned into vegetal engeneering, and overflood is accepted, widening the spectrum of environements.

In Riesa a distinctive Elbe skyline had been developed throughout centuries which was going to be developed further and reorganized northwards. One of the architectural marks is the harbor entrance. Existing slopes were used to form a plateau on which the „Hafenwaechter“ (look out) rises and offers great views into surroundings and at the city‘s skyline.

The university town of Gießen has recovered the Lahn River, exposing the urban development potential that it had long neglected: the central river banks with their meadows and adjacent urban quarters. The framework plan will develop the shores of the Lahn into a completely new and multifaceted inner-city recreational area. Implementation will proceed in phases, as soon as the various spaces become available.

Schwäbisch Gmünd, a mid-sized town in southern Germany, has engineered a far-reaching urban redevelopment process resulting in a new green heart for the city. This comprehensive project has structurally reoriented the inner city, including its traffic patterns. Historical urban structures were re-exposed, new urban axes were formed and expansive public spaces were built.

In order to restore the river beach of Goian -partially taken up by a roadway but very popular- and to reactivate the abandoned surrounding environment of the recently restored Fortress of San Lourenço -visually and physically secluded from the river beach and partially abandoned-, we are commissioned to reorganize a number of facilities that will give meaning to a future park in the only possible area: an intermediate hillside with steep slopes permanently facing south and totally disfigured by several quarries and illegal facilities.

The wharf is arranged in a large sandstone paved esplanade. It forms a garden of cracks, where the joins draw lines moderately conducive to bio-diversity, and the environment. Parisian style trees and riparian forests are planted and climbing plants adorn the walls. The place is pedestrianised, road traffic is limited to the functional uses of a public and port area.
